Weekend Recap

This is pretty much how I spent my weekend, so there is much to recap. I laid around on one couch while the dog laid on the other and then we would switch. I know, not very exciting. I thought that when I decided to get rid of my cable television that it would curtail my television watching...boy was I wrong about that. While I no longer random switch channels and watch drivel that is on, I still spend a lot of time watching television. I have hours and hours of television at my finger tips that I can access via Netflix streaming and HuluPlus.

This weekend I started watching The Monarchy series. I only have the first two seasons, but it was enough to get me through, and since I dozed off a couple of times, I had to rerun some of the shows as I would miss a king or two. I did learn some from watching these shows and it provided some insight into the Jacobite Risings, which I keep coming across in literature....so maybe, if I am going to laze around watching television at least it is intelligent shows where I'm learning things...right?
 

Thanksgiving "Weekend"

I have actually managed to stretch my Thanksgiving weekend out to a 7 day vacation!!

This afternoon I'm packing up some stuff and heading over to my folks' house where I will enjoy all of the pleasures that Mom and Dad have to offer. So far, here is the big schedule:

Thursday - Eat, eat, watch football, eat, play some board games (perhaps poker and/or chicken-foot)

Friday - Quilt-a-thon with my Mom. I will be putting the sleeve on The Queen's quilt and working on a Christmas quilt that I picked up at a shop recently.

Saturday - Probably continue with the Quilt-a-thon. Possibly work on scanning old pictures for future Flashback Friday usage.

Sunday - Brunch at Blue Mesa with the folks. Hopefully my sister and family will join us. Mom and I are planning on drinking some champagne and just relaxing.

Monday - Go to my Mom's art quilt group - The Creative Crones...they actually call themselves something else now because some people had issue with calling themselves "crones". While the crone has become a stock character is literature and is typically synonymous with a "hag", I prefer her to be just a representation as an elder states-woman of the tribe who has the knowledge to share with the younger generations or as Joseph Campbell's reference that she is a protective character much like a Fairy Godmother. Some day I hope to be a Creative Crone.

Tuesday - I head back to the Castle and do really fun things like laundry.

Wednesday - It is back to the office, but I'm off to a whole new account, which I'm looking forward to.

Tune Out Weekend

Well, I didn't do it.

I know that I planned to tune out this weekend and just "be" but I didn't quite get it done.

I did watch slightly less television than normal this weekend and did listen to some iPod and read quite a bit, but not as much as I planned.

I didn't work on quilts like I planned. I have just the binding and the sleeve left to go on the Queen's quilt and then I can ship it off to her with a nice bottle of wine...I'll try and work on that this week, but it'll require some time in front of the television because there is some hand sewing involved (which I HATE) but since it is for the wall and not for the bed, I figure I'll make it look nice.

I did go to the grocery store, which I hadn't done since my folks had visited, and stocked up on frozen meals, yogurt, and fruit to last me for at least a couple of weeks.

I did go through a year's worth of magazines that had stacked up and tore out the articles that were of interest to me and recycled the magazines, which got rid of one big stack taking up room in the apartment.

Oh, and I did do my taxes, found my birth certificate so that I can go get my passport, and put away two weeks worth of clean clothes that needed to be put on hangers.

And, I slept. I am feeling rested, which is a nice feeling. I have plans swirling around in my head of quilts that I want to work on, now I just need to get them on paper and then into fabric.

I didn't have quite the weekend that I planned to have, but I did have a good weekend and in the end, that is what counts.

Goings On

I know that I haven't been posting much lately, and I really don't have any excuse, other than I don't really have anything specific that I wanted to discuss. Nothing too terribly exciting has been going on in my world, at least not since I came back from the HCBC gathering in So. Cal.

I've had terrible computer problems with my work laptop. They were so bad that it got to the point where my baby had to be replaced and I'll never be able to get back into the flow of how I used to work. They couldn't rebuild it exactly, so I'm having to relearn where all my normal files are since I am used to just going to my short cuts. Today, for some reason, all of my personal folders in my mailbox are gone, and if they can't be recovered I am SCREWED!! I also lost my full version of Acrobat, which has now limited me in some of the things that I used to do. Ah well, that is one of the things that makes work interesting, huh?

This past weekend was a lot of fun, very relaxing, but fun. I walked over to a shopping center on Saturday and then had Samantha and her mom pick me up with Kenya, her dog. The three of us headed out to Crissy Field and had a great picnic of sparkling wine, salami, bread, and fresh mozzarella with tomatoes. We enjoyed the great weather and then took Kenya for a short walk along the beach. Saturday evening Samantha and I walked over to this Mexican restaurant that I've driven past a number of times. I thought it was a sit down place, but it turns out it is an order at the counter and they bring the food out. It was very tasty, but I not the best I've had.

Sunday, Samantha, Kenya, and I went for another walk. This time it was up and down some of the big San Francisco hills in the neighborhood. While we were only out for about 45 minutes to an hour, it felt like a much longer walk. I came home and ended up just hanging out around my place. I watched the Super Bowl, but wasn't really impressed with what I watch it for...the commercials. The game, on the other hand, was actually pretty exciting, even though I wasn't really interested in either of the teams winning.

That was about the weekend for me.

Weekend Plans - Santa Cruz

As you may or may not have noticed, I have not been making my rounds to comment on my fellow HCBC blogs this week. I'm not really certain why, I just have gotten out of the habit of documenting on my own blog and going and reading everybody else's blogs. I guess it is just cyclical, I get into the groove....I get out of the groove. Maybe I'm getting back in the groove, but who really knows.

So, this weekend I have quite the full schedule. After work this evening, I am heading down to Santa Cruz to spend the night in a hotel down there. I just spoke to my boss who grew up in Santa Cruz and she knows the place. Basically, it is cheap and clean and the door locks and that is really about all I'm looking for. She told me that I probably don't want to go wandering around the streets much as the neighborhood in one direction is a little seedy. However, she did give me some suggestions of places within walking distance that I can go and check out some of the local color.

Tomorrow morning, I get up and drive down the coast a bit to Pacific Grove to attend a quilt class, which I'm very excited about. I got up bright and early (heck it was actually still dark and early) this morning to get all of my things packed. I had already gathered together all of my sewing paraphernalia and had it all ready to load up into the car. The class is from 10:30 - 4:00 so I may just decide to hang out in Monterey and grab a bite to eat down there and then head back up to Santa Cruz... We'll see. Since, it is just me I don't really have to consider what anybody else wants to do.

Sunday, I get up and check out of my hotel room. I then have some time to kill because I am meeting the group of us that went camping a while back for a horseback ride in the Santa Cruz mountains. However, we aren't meeting until 11:00 and the drive from my hotel to the place where we are meeting is about 5 miles. Since I am very much a morning person, I'm certain that I will be up and around WELL before 11 AM. So, as I am writing this I am considering going down to Capitola and finding a place where I can get a nice breakfast and watch the early morning surfers.

The only thing that has me ever so slightly concerned is the weather. Mind you, the weather reports look to be clear and beautiful, but one never knows. The last two times I went down to Santa Cruz was with The Queen B and one of those times it ended up sleeting and snowing as we were driving over the summit of the Santa Cruz mountains. The last time I was down there with the Queen it was in a torrential rainstorm where the waves were cresting the sea wall. I'm going to chalk the weather phenomena up to the Queen's presence and keeping my fingers crossed that this trip will be smooth sailing.

Hopefully when I get back on line I'll have pics to share of the trip.

What I Did This Weekend

First the things I didn't do:

1. Didn't move my car
2. Didn't speak to a soul
3. Didn't get dressed (I know, can I get any lazier?)

Things I DID do this weekend:

1. Cleaned my kitchen
2. Cooked meals for the first part of the week
3. Finished a book
4. Finished a quilt top
5. Started and completed a small (25" x 25") quilt top
6. Cut out another quilt top to work on this week
7. Spammed a bunch of friends via Facebook

While some people may think me completely unproductive since I didn't leave my house and had no contact with the outside world, I think it was a great weekend. I accomplished quite a bit and I'm slowly whittling away at my projects that have been on the shelf for far too long!!
