Steps to Better Health

As you all may recall, I've been mentioning for some time off and on that I need to get healthy. I've been inspired by the Queen and her eating habits and workout habits. And, I've been inspired by Sam and her eating habits and workout habits. And, of course my parents. But inspiration doesn't necessarily always equate to activity. That is until yesterday....

Yesterday I went to my first Pilate's session with a great instructor, Abby at a very nice down-to-earth studio called Ellie Herman Pilate's Studio. Sam had taken me to another one a little over a year ago, which seems awfully pretentious to me, but this one was great. I actually walked there from my apartment (since Tuesday is my work at home day) had my workout, which at first didn't seem that tough but I definitely broke a sweat and am pretty sore this morning, and then walked home. So I not only got my class with stretching and muscle building but I also got probably close to a mile and a half walk in.

Of course I'm now also inspired by Abby as she is such a unique and interesting person. First of all, she has the sweetest personality and second she is somebody who has truly followed her dreams. Besides being a Pilate's teacher, she is an acrobat, trapeze artist, burlesque dancer and belongs to a bonafide circus. She was talking recently about a place where a person can go and learn how to swing from a trapeze.... Who knows, I might just be doing that some day!!

So, in closing, a thank you goes out to all those people who have inspired me recently to take better care of myself. I'm trying, I really am!!

a. I am super proud of you!
b. I want to try pilates.
c. How fun would bing a trapeze artist? I couldn't do it because I am petrified of heights. But I say you do it and we will all come cheer you on!

yay! This is great news :) Agree, Abby is amazing.

Also... you can learn to trapeze at the Club Med in Turks & Caicos. Oh, and you can enjoy the beach and mai tais there, too ;)

I'm not sure I want to do the trapeze while enjoying a mai tai....

I am so proud of you! Sometimes it just takes the right timing, situation and person to get a person to change their patterns. You moved to SF, found a place that feels comfortable to you and found an instructor you feel comfortable with as well as inspire you. I know that happened to me 4 years ago and it made a world of difference in my life. I remember after taking classes with abby for 4 months she told me she was running away to the circus and I thought to myself what a great thing to be able to do. ( she just did it in the summer with a small east coast italian family circus). Now she has her own small troupe called circus bella and here is a link http://circusbella.com/
I think you can also see Abby perform on the trapeze at her own link
http://www.highflyingabigail.com/

its fun to watch.

oops I jsut saw you had put the links in your blog:-) I do want to make one comment about the other pialtes sudio you referred to as pretentious. Yes it can be called that but I can overlook that quality because their methods really work. That place is great for when you reach a certain point of fitness and you want to take it to a higher level ...then mercury fitness is for you. My body really changed with their workouts which are intense. Even Abby told me to go back to mercury for group lessons and privates with her at elle herman.
