Some People are So RUDE....

This harks back to me being a rule follower, but some people are incredibly rude....

I went to Joann's Fabric today at lunch to pick up some iron-on patches to do repair work on some pants. I completed my shopping and went to the checkout counter. I set my stuff down and started waiting, as there was no clerk there to check me out.

Another customer came up and set her things down at another register and asked if I was waiting for a clerk. I said "yes" and since it had only been about a minute I wasn't going to start yelling out for assistance, since I've worked in retail before and during slow times you have to step away from your register to stock shelves or something and keep an eye on the counter. I assumed that the clerk was busy doing just such a thing and would notice me soon. If I hadn't been acknowledged soon, however, I would have asked for assistance.

ANYWAY, the other customer that came up, immediately started yelling out for somebody to come check us out. The clerk came immediately (and I was right, she was just on the other side of the shelf doing some stocking, but hadn't looked up). However, when she came up, she started helping the loud customer first instead of asking who was there first. AND the loud customer didn't bother to stop her and say, "no, she was here first".

I was brought up to not cut in line and to play fair. I would have told the clerk to help the other person in line first.

Sheesh, people make me mad!!!

Television Extremes

Hi, my name is ABBA and I'm a television addict....

Well, that might be overstating it a bit, but I do tend to watch a lot of television and yesterday I was on a whole pendulum of extremes. I admit that I'm a huge fan of the completely mindless "Charmed" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" but I chalk those up to:

  1. Being based on strong female characters
  2. "Charmed" taking place in San Francisco and every time I'm driving around I'm looking for the house they live in
  3. I've had a HUGE crush on the guy that plays Giles in "Buffy" since I first saw him in the Folgers Coffee commercials years ago

But, that isn't the extremes that I'm referring to today. Today, I refer to the game show extremes that I watched yesterday.

On the upswing, I watched "Jeopardy" the thinking person's game show. I love to watch that show, especially if I can actually answer some of the questions. Sadly, I will never be able to compete on that show because I DON'T know a lot of the answers and I always forget to answer in the form of a question.

On the downswing, I finished my night by watching "Wipeout" and "I Survived a Japanese Game show". "I Survived a Japanese Game show" takes a group of Americans, ships them off to Japan, divides them up into two teams, and then pits the teams against one another in different tasks in front of the camera and the Japanese studio audience. The winning team gets to go do some grand thing in Japan, such as a spa day where they experienced tiny fish eating the dead skin off their feet. The losing team has to do some not so fun task, such as plant rice or be rickshaw drivers for a day. The two teams then meet back at the studio and the losing team has to send two individuals to compete with the loser going home. In the end, the last one standing will win a quarter of a million dollars and have the bragging rights to the claim of surviving a Japanese game show.

I know it is sad that I waste my evenings watching such drivel, but it makes me laugh, and in my world, that is all that matters. Besides, did you not read the first sentence of this blog?

Goals - Day Two

So, I'm still trying to define and document my goals. Yesterday, I completely my 3 small goals (legs, blog, passport paperwork). Today, I need to come up with new small goals, especially since I won't be tackling any of my medium goals. What to do...

Since today is my work from home day (thanks, boss!), I guess I could make my goals home-based.
  • Empty the Dishwasher
  • Clean up the Kitchen
  • Dust and Vacuum
Those will be the nice interruptions to my work goals, which I really should also document and address.
  • Complete Sharepoint Taxonomy
  • Finalize My Brown Bag Material
  • Attend the New and Improved SLA Training
That should keep my day on the couch pretty busy.....

No Tour

Looks like I'm not going to be going on tour... Check out this link: No Tour for ABBA.

Goal Setting

We all need to have goals, large and small. Large goals for me are:
  • Find a new job
  • Lose weight
  • Travel to Europe
  • Become a world renowned (or at least paid) artist and author
My small goals are much more mundane. They could almost be called my "To Do" list, but writing them out as goals makes them sound more important. So, here are my goals for today:
  • Shave my legs (check)...not exciting but needed to be done
  • Blog (check)...this will be the top of every goal list this week
  • Complete the paperwork for getting a passport
Whew, that seems like a pretty full day there... I don't want to wear myself out!!

Now in thinking about the "large" goals and the "small" goals I think perhaps I need to come up with some "medium" goals. The medium goals are those that are actually attainable in a respectable amount of time, however, they also require slightly more focus and time to complete. Small goals can be part of the completion of a medium goal and medium goals can be part of the completion of larger goals. So, here are my medium goals:
  • Acquire my passport
  • Rewrite my resume, again
  • Get my car washed
  • Mail Mother's and Father's Day presents (yeah, I'm a wee bit late)
  • Mail the Queen her wine)
  • Figure out what is wrong with my Mac Book
  • Perform wardrobe repair (e.g., replace buttons, hems, patch, etc.)
Of course, now I have to remember that I've set these goals, track to them, and report on them, don't I? I guess look for future reports on where I am on completing my goals.
